Popular songstress, Tiwa Savage, was at the New York Fashion week on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, to celebrate the launch of her lipstick and collaboration with top beauty brand, M.A.C. This is the beauty brand’s first collaboration with an African.
On the sidelines of the fashion week, she hosted an exclusive meet-and-greet in a store, where she interacted with some of her fans.
Trying out the new lipstick in the presence of her fans, she said, “I am pro African. I stand for everything African. I wanted a colour that represents Africa.”
Recall that a week ago, Savage’s collaboration with M.A.C was announced at The Art Hotel in Lagos. She stated that she had been working on the project for about two years and was excited to share it with her fans.
Hosted by Kaylah Oniwo, the event kicked off with an introduction of the MAC Sub Saharan team, headed by Lebo Mulumba, the Brand Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa. According to Mulumba, Savage was chosen because aside from being a global icon, she had always had a relationship with the brand and is passionate about supporting local talent.
On her part, Savage said, “This is a special moment for us. Africans use a lot of make-up but are not recognised, so this collaboration is long overdue. I chose this shade because I wanted something strong, bold, beautiful and a representation of women of my complexion, because it is usually difficult for us to find a suitable shade of red.”
