On Monday, a tragic shooting occurred at Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in Nashville, resulting in the deaths of three children. The school has about 200 students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The victims were rushed to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department reported on Twitter that the shooter died after a confrontation with police, but it was unclear whether the shooter committed suicide or was shot by the police. It was also unknown if anyone else was injured in the attack. Following the incident, the school went into lockdown, and students were taken to a nearby church to reunite with their parents.
Covenant School was established in 2001 and is a division of Covenant Presbyterian Church. The school is located in the Green Hills neighborhood, an affluent area near the city’s top universities and the famous Bluebird Café.
