A foreign national who was a neighbour of the late Akhona Duku in Delft in Cape Town has reportedly gone AWOL after an accusation that he stabbed the victim to death.

WHEN WAS AKHONA DUKU KILLED BY AWOL FOREIGN NATIONAL

According to Women for Change, Akhona Duku (38) was killed allegedly by a neighbour on 5 February 2023 in Delft.

It is alleged that a man, living in the same neighbourhood randomly took her phone. Once Akhona found out, she went to the man’s house to get her phone back.

It is alleged that the suspect killed Akhona and threw her off the first floor into a yard.

“The suspect is on the run and no one has been arrested yet.”

GBV AND FEMICIDE OUT OF CONTROL IN SA

The death of women in the hand of their partners has increased, with reports surfacing every day of a powerless woman being killed over apparent problems in the relationship. This has become a sad reality in South Africa and very little is being achieved to reduce the ugly scourge of Gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in the country.
